The Haydarpasa Cemetery memorializes and historically records another controversial time in global history which was World War I. History says that 405 men were buried at the cemetery who fought in the war. History also says that most of those who died, were prisoners of war who died in Turkey. The memories are etched onto the tombstones of these fallen men. The memories are in the articulation of their names by those who can’t help but remember. The physical memory is in the 1857 erection of the Haydarpasa Memorial above these 450 graves.
