One International Place
In this photo, one can view One International Place, a modern skyscraper erected in 1987 and the sixth tallest building in Boston reaching 600 ft tall, and the historic State St. block, home to office and commericail space, in the foreground. The earliest State St. houses were build by Winthrop and his fellow settlers in 1630. The street was called Market St. from 1936 until 1784, when it was renamed King St. Not until the American Revolution did it shed the name 'King' and become State St. in keeping with the new non-royalist national ideology. The street remains a hub for Boston's financial activity.
