World War II Commemorative Sites

The Great Patriotic War, better known to many as World War II, was a time of great fear, strife and loss for the Soviet Union. Much is to be said about the level of casualties that the country endured. A whopping 8,668,400 people were dead or missing from the Soviet Union between 1941 and 1945. It is in honor of those men and women that the country erected several monuments, memorials, museums, and statues for public view.  However, there are many that believe Russia hasn’t done an adequate job of representing every perspective of this tragic time in history. The wide variety of different groups involved in the war does lend itself to at least some misrepresentation, but there is at least a thing or two that can be said about intention and effort on the side of Moscow. The purpose of this tour will be to firstly, visit and discuss the World War II commemorative sites in Moscow. Secondly, we will be looking for any observable evidence and/or rectification of institutional misrepresentation of certain groups.
