Conclusion
Taksim Square, the accepted center of the city of Istanbul serves as the symbolic location for the soul of the city in that various incidents in the square have determined the mindset imbued within the citizens and governments of the city. Currently, and rather indicative of the past issues, it’s a battle between the citizen’s utilization of the square as a voice for their modern beliefs clashes with the government’s intentions to recreate moments of the site’s history to serve as a statement of the city. The passage of time has not changed the essence of the location, that being a site for the city’s identity to emanate from the conflicts and celebrations alike that are attributed to Istanbul’s history.
