Monument Locations
Moscow is a city that was never quite the same for very long. Whether it was caused by Peter the Great feeling that it wasn't worthy of a capital to Bolsheviks thinking that it was the rightful crown display of Russia, Moscow has never settled on an identity.
The era after the Soviet Union collapse was an unsure time for Moscow. It struggled to define itself when Russia as a whole was lost. It honored Peter the Great who did not honor the city when he was alive, and it went on to create more monuments that ushered in and welcomed the Western world. To this day, Moscow is a representation of Russia coming to its identity in the 21st century, whether it's Eastern or Western or neither exactly, Moscow has become the epicenter of that visual change and claimed its role as the crown jewel of Russia.
