Zodiac Signs
In 2007, Andrey Aseryanets unveiled his zodiac sculptures in the Moscow park. The statues are a series of bronze pieces depicting all of the zodiac signs in unique and twisted ways. The statues act as another representation of the new Moscow identity of the 21st century and the new milennium. The pieces are almost rowdy, most certainly unconvential, and most of all, untraditional. Traditional Russian culture pays no attention or recognizes zodiac signs, but this series of sculptures brings that culture in. The style of the series is also of note. It is not traditional in both form and aesthetic pleasure. The pieces are not necessarily attractive as they are to entertain, and perhaps that is the new identity Moscow is seeking. A new, avant-garde style of existence that may not be attractive but is most certainly attention grabbing and new.
