A photograph taken of Bombay at night in 1998.

Though British control of Bombay and India ended in the 20th century, Britain still is looking to take more from India and Bombay. The photo of Bombay at night in 1998 was taken by a British photographer, Steve McCurry who was commissioned by British Gas PLC. Even though it had been a few decades after Indian indepence from Britain, the British were still looking to exploit what they could out of the city. Just like Bellin who chose to use the name Bombay, the anglo name, as opposed to any name, McCurry chose to do the same. Bombay had been renamed Mumbai by the Indian government in 1995, and though this photo was taken a few years later, McCurry chooses to stick to the British name. This naming is a clear message that Britain does not want India truly independent, truly separate with its own identity, becasuse then Britain will have no control, no easy way to siphon resources at will.
